On Gendered Terms and LGBTQ+ Inclusion
We're all about humans supporting humans.
At Hatch we believe that all humans are equally valuable and deserve to be loved and respected. We acknowledge that use of gendered terms such as “woman” and “mother” on our site and in referenced materials may leave members of the LGBTQ+ community feeling excluded and unseen. We want to be clear that all genders and sexual orientations are welcome and valued at Hatch. We invite you to replace any gendered language with your own preferred nouns and pronouns and we want you to know that we are working on our own shortcoming in adapting our materials and writing to be gender neutral and respectful. If you have further concerns on this issue please email us.
On Cultural Considerations
We're inspired by Ancient Wisdom from all around the World
At Hatch we acknowledge that some practices are of great cultural significance to certain groups of people. We will do our best to avoid appropriating any cultural practices, and give each culture the appreciation and respect that they deserve. We believe that all peoples have the same basic needs and that many Ancient Practices have similarities because of this fact. We want everyone, regardless of their background to feel seen, heard and loved through all phases of life and we hope to facilitate this with whichever practices speak most to that individual or family. If you have any concerns regarding your culture or feel that our work is causing harm, please email us.
On Land
The Earth knows who really belongs here, may we endeavour to remember and acknowledge that truth.
At Hatch we acknowledge that our work is based from the unceded lands of the Michif Piyii (Métis), Anishinabewaki ᐊᓂᔑᓈᐯᐗᑭ, and Očhéthi Šakówiŋ , who raised their own children on these lands for generations and knew the land intimately. Much has changed since these times, and its the departure from the wisdom of these peoples that has led us down a difficult path. We acknowledge the past and present impacts of colonization on the children of these nations and their traditional ways of life and the oppressive forces present as a result of that colonization that are evident in almost every aspect of "modern day life". If you have any suggestions as to how we can better honor the rightful owners of this land and gain wisdom from their ancient knowledge without it feeling as though we are appropriating any lovingly held traditions, please don't hesitate to contact us. We are also committing to donating 5% of all profits to the Canadian Roots Exchange as a starting point to contributing to a more just and compassionate future for all.
On Accessibility
We all deserve to feel supported
At Hatch we acknowledge we want our services to be available to all those that would benefit. We know that holistic services such as ours often feel out of reach for many people and families. If you genuinely cannot afford to access our services, please reach out. I am willing to discuss options including barter, payment plans, sliding scale consults and other strategies to make myself accessible to those in need. We also are committing to a program where for every 7 people that register for a service or class we will offer up one service or spot in the class for free to whomever feels they genuinely need the service.
